Der Do Khyi im Internet, oder…
Warum gibt es so viele widersprüchliche Informationen?
Wenn Sie im Internet nach Informationen über den Do Khyi suchen, kann das bisweilen sehr frustrierend, oder zumindestens verwirrend sein. Nach relativ kurzer Zeit muß man zwangsläufig zu dem Entschluß kommen, daß etwas nicht stimmt im Umfeld des Do Khyi – und damit haben Sie recht.
Dokhyi Blogs vermitteln den Eindruck, diese Rasse sei zu nichts zu gebrauchen. Auf gleicher Seite lesen Sie weiter, “Do Khyi wollen beschäftigt werden”. Solche Widersprüche fallen den Blogbetreibern – die vortäuschen sich seit Jahren mit dieser Rasse zu beschäftigen – nicht auf.
Manche sind sogar so dreist zu behaupten, ihre 40 jährigen Erfahrungen beruhen auf der Haltung von Familienverbänden und versehen kurzerhand zugekaufte Hunde mit eigenem Zwingernamen. Wenn man bedenkt, daß die betreffende Dame erst seit ca. 10 Jahren insgesamt lediglich 3 Do Khyi hatte, von denen nicht einer selbstgezüchtet war, weiß man, was man von solchen Informationen halten darf…
Tatsächlich aber hat nicht einer dieser Blogbetreiber je einen Wurf Do Khyi großgezogen!
Und, diese Blogbetreiber haben das selbe große Problem – Namhafte Züchter und Vereine lehnen sie ab!
Drei dieser Blogger sind sogar (teils mehrfach) aus Do Khyi Foren und Dokhyi Vereinen entfernt worden, oder sind ihrem Rauswurf durch Austritt zuvorgekommen.
Aber was stimmt nun wirklich, und wem kann man trauen?
Eine wirklich schwierige Frage.

Na endlich!
Wurde ja auch mal Zeit, dass jemand dieser ganzen selbstgerechten „ich-hab-das-heulende-Elend-,wenn-ich-an-den-Do-Khyi-denk“-Mischpoke mal Paroli bietet! Hab mich inzwischen nicht nur im Netz umgeschaut, sondern mich auch anderweitig über die Rasse informiert und muss sagen: Hut ab!
DAS SIND FAKTEN!
Bitte weiter so schon kurz und kanckig schreiben; da die Texte eines gewissen …. bei mir eine leichte „Langtextallergie“ hervorgerufen haben!
Werde gerne öfter hier vorbeischauen!

My excuses firstly as I don’t write German. I do however read it quite well.
I keep African mastiffs/Boerboel but am fascinated with all mastiff guardian breeds, many which went into the making and rescuing of the imposing Boerboel itself.
And so on my search to fully understand my own breed I came eventually to the Do khyis. I hold the knowledge that a large substantial grey blue „Tibetan mastiff“ was used many years ago in the fine tuning of the Boerboel. Even to this day the odd blue Boerboel is born out of certain lines from this ancestor.
Understanding the Do khyis to me is as complicated as understanding the Boerboel, but like the boerboel I recognise that quite few types went into it’s creation.
What I was wondering at this point since I am now based in Asia is how close are the Chinese version to the original Tibetan Do Khyis? There is a big interest in these dogs here now and it must be candidly said mostly for pure profit reasons. I find the colours of their dogs and pigment exceptional but that’s where it mostly ends. Again being forwardly candid, for the rest they mostly look like to me over sized short legged Chow Chow’s with a little Neopolitano thrown in for good measure.
I notice hardly any „Tibetan mastiff“ sites on the net mention the Chinese version. So I wonder what they are thinking about them, are they accepted as possible breeding material or are they too wide off the mark to be contemplated?
I feel somehow that the Chinese might be on the wrong direction sadly but I also feel that there is no or hardly any exchange of idea between Western breeders and the Chinese. This is a pity I think as I see amongst the Chinese dogs a few, a very very few that could be very good and should not be missed even if their colour is not acceptable in some countries.
Well these are some of my thoughts on the matter as I look closer into the Do Khyis, hope you don’t mind me sharing.
I feel a working dog is best preserved by working and selecting those that do well at their job and less on external cosmetic feature. But certainly selecting for conformation that is as functional as it should be to do it’s job is absolutely vital.

welcome in Germany and thank you for your Statement. My Opinion is, that chinese people create something, that only lookslike a big big Tibetan Mastiff. I have never seen such ugly big Dogs around the Himalaya. All Nomads got medium size Tibetan Mastiffs for working and if you show them pictures of big chinese Dogs, they tell you that this is not the same Breed.
Some western Breeder import a few Dogs from China, but all of them are Ill (Eyedisease and Hipdisplasia)! Such Dogs you can`t use for Breeding. Much of them are realy aggressive!
Likewise the Colors of the chines Dogs are new and very special!
Its not a big secret, that chinese people eat Dogs and that they import great Breeds for the meat-market. I think, that they mixed a few Breeds to get something like a Tibetan Mastiff to make a big buisness!
I got a few offers from chinese people, that like to sell very very ugly Dogs to me. They ask many tousend Dollars – you can by a new Mercedes for that!
I have imported a few Tibetan Mastiff from Nomad-Working-Lines by myself and I try to hold and protect this wonderful Breed for the Future.
I realy hope, that the chinese people stop Breeding or that they give his Dogs a new Name – like CHINESE Mastiff!
I´m sorry, that I can´t tell you nicer things, but is my opinion and I breed since 25 Years and visit TM-Breeder around the hole World.
I agree with you, that the best wise to protect old Working Breeds is, to work with them and to select them after old type and health – not after showresults!

Hallo,
ich habe ein paar Fragen und hoffe ihr könnt mir helfen.
Man liest soviel über den Do khyi, aber auch viele Widersprüche.
Wir haben vor uns einen welpen an zu schaffen ( Erfahrung mit Bernen Sennen)
Doch plagt mich die Angst, reicht ein Gartenzaun von 1,20 m Höhe wirklich aus?
Haut einfach ab, wenn er was interessantes sieht?
Wir haben Kinder, ist er ein Familienhund oder nicht?
